Legal Practices

Divorce
Beyond being emotionally taxing, divorce can be complicated. Even parties going through an uncontested divorce can benefit from experienced legal counsel to protect their rights. Having handled countless divorces in the Northern Kentucky and surrounding area, Ashley offers assistance with a wide variety of family law matters, from contested and uncontested divorces, to enforcement and modifications you may need after a divorce is final.

Adoption
Adoption is a life-changing moment for children and their adoptive families, and the experience should be an exciting one. Adoption most often involves a complex procedure meant to ensure the change is happening in the child’s best interest. As a result, adoptive parents benefit greatly by having an experienced law firm assisting them through the process. Ashley can assist couples and individuals in adopting a child.
Simple Wills

Plan for the unexpected with a living will or power of attorney. A power of attorney allows a person you appoint to act in your place for financial or other purposes if and when you become incapacitated or cannot act on your own behalf. A living will states a person's desires regarding medical treatment in circumstances they are not able to express informed consent. Ashley is happy to assist you in preparing and protecting yourself with living wills and POAs.
Custody
Domestic Violence
Not only does she have experience in the courtroom and the understanding of the legal complexities of domestic violence, Ashley received training from the Women's Crisis Center to better understand what a victim of domestic violence endures and experiences to better advocate and represent those victims of domestic violence. Ashley can guide you through this stressful time and will work to obtain the best results possible for your case.

Many couples choose not to get married before starting a family. Determining custody of minor children between separating couples outside of marriage raises the additional issue of paternity and other complications. Ashley is experienced in addressing, resolving, and litigating the issues that can arise between couples seeking formal custody arrangements.
A simple will provides for the outright distribution of assets for an uncomplicated estate. Although these forms are widely available and easy to use, doing a will without the guidance of an attorney can be risky. You need to be aware of state laws which may affect the distribution of your assets, even if you do not have a complex estate. Ashley can advise you on the best type of will to use, and what to include.
Living Wills and Power of Attorney

Ashley Barber Sexton
Since I could talk, I knew I wanted to be an attorney because I have always had a strong sense of justice. In my high school years, I believed I wanted to be a prosecutor to achieve this goal. A wise Boyd County Circuit Judge advised me that I should become a family law attorney. I spent the first part of my career taking paths simply to avoid becoming a family law attorney. In 2016, I began taking family law cases, and it became clear to me why that wise Circuit Court Judge recommended family law to me. In family law disputes, people are seeking justice for the most important aspect of their lives: their children, their family, themselves, and their property.
I am passionate about family law because it gives me the opportunity to work directly with clients and to help them through what is usually the most difficult time in their lives. My clients' priorities are my priorities. I work efficiently and thoroughly to ensure my clients receive the quality representation they deserve in such difficult times.
