Committed. Thorough. Effective.
I care deeply about the people I serve. I take time to listen to my clients, understand their concerns, and develop sound legal strategies designed to achieve their objectives.
I am very mindful that each of my clients has a unique situation and I tailor my representation to fit each individual's needs. I am able to get creative in my approaches to get my clients the results they deserve.

Legal Practices

Divorce
Beyond being emotionally taxing, divorce can be complicated. Even parties going through an uncontested divorce can benefit from experienced legal counsel to protect their rights. Having handled countless divorces in the Northern Kentucky and surrounding area, Ashley offers assistance with a wide variety of family law matters, from contested and uncontested divorces, to enforcement and modifications you may need after a divorce is final.

Adoption
Adoption is a life-changing moment for children and their adoptive families, and the experience should be an exciting one. Adoption most often involves a complex procedure meant to ensure the change is happening in the child’s best interest. As a result, adoptive parents benefit greatly by having an experienced law firm assisting them through the process. Ashley can assist couples and individuals in adopting a child.
Estate Planning
Custody

Many couples choose not to get married before starting a family. Determining custody of minor children between separating couples outside of marriage raises the additional issue of paternity and other complications. Ashley is experienced in addressing, resolving, and litigating the issues that can arise between couples seeking formal custody arrangements.
We don't like to think about our mortality, but it is important to be prepared as we all must face it one day. Ashley wants to help ensure your assets will go to the people you want, when you want, when you pass away. Ashley can help tailor your estate planning to fit your family's unique needs to ensure they are protected when you are no longer here to help them.

Plan for the unexpected with a living will or power of attorney. A power of attorney allows a person you appoint to act in your place for financial or other purposes if and when you become incapacitated or cannot act on your own behalf. A living will states a person's desires regarding medical treatment in circumstances they are not able to express informed consent. Ashley is happy to assist you in preparing and protecting yourself with living wills and POAs.
Domestic Violence
Not only does she have experience in the courtroom and the understanding of the legal complexities of domestic violence, Ashley received training from the Women's Crisis Center to better understand what a victim of domestic violence endures and experiences to better advocate and represent those victims of domestic violence. Ashley can guide you through this stressful time and will work to obtain the best results possible for your case.
Living Wills and Power of Attorney

Ashley Barber Sexton
One way I believe I set myself apart in the legal community is my ability to be sensitive and strong. It has gotten back to me that I have a reputation for being somewhat of a “pitbull,” but I see myself as a mother bear for my clients: I will empathize and care deeply about what you are going through, and I am fiercely protective when others threaten those interests.
I am comfortable thinking outside of the box and getting creative with settlement resolutions that give my clients their priorities in a case, though it may not follow the status quo precedent. Every person I serve is unique and has different interests, why would all my case resolutions be the same? My creativity has a chance to shine through again when settlement efforts fail and we must face litigation: I challenge myself to look at the situation from all angles and am comfortable going against the grain when necessary to accomplish my clients’ goals.
Ultimately in every case where a child is involved I am informing my advice to my client, be it the child or parent, on what is in their child’s best interest. I am fortunate enough to participate on panels of attorneys representing families involved in child neglect and abuse cases, wherein I learn invaluable information on the newest research and studies on all parts of a child’s well-being.
I never lose sight that we are serving real people who need real results in a broken and imperfect system, and so I lean into my innovation and empathy to get the necessary results.
